Jean Lenora Kinsey, age 81, died Monday, August 21, 2017, at the home of her daughter, Angela Trammell, following an extended illness.Mrs. Kinsey was born August 29, 1935 in Rome, Ga., daughter of the late Dennis J. Singleton and Pearl E. Ray Singleton. Until retirement Mrs. Kinsey had been associated with Bonton’s in Rome as a sales associate. Mrs. Kinsey was a member of Mount Paran Church of God and was an accomplished artist and avid gardener. She had an abounding love for animals and supplied shelter and care for many of God’s abandoned creatures.In addition to her parents, Mrs. Kinsey was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd H. Kinsey, in 1990.Survivors include a daughter, Angela Trammell, of Rome; two stepsons, Kerry Kinsey, of Florida, and Danny Kinsey, of Virginia; two granddaughters, Megan Grisham (Garrett), and Olivia Trammell, both of Rome; two great-grandsons, Tucker and Levi Grisham; sister, Martha McDurmont, of Rome; special friend, Phil Trammell. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.A memorial service will be held Friday August 25, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the Carl Sidwell Chapel of Salmon Funeral Home with Dr. Talmadge Barnes and the Rev. Les Walker officiating.The family will receive friends Friday from noon until the funeral hour. Memorial Day events provide opportunities to offer respect

(File photo by Donna Dalziel)ROYAL OAK/CLAWSON — Members of the community will have many activities available over Memorial Day weekend May 27-29 to remember the men and women who died while serving in the armed forces.Memorial Day paradeThe Royal Oak Memorial Day Parade will step off at 9 a.m. Monday, May 29, at Lincoln Avenue and Main Street.The parade will move north on Main Street to Second Street and conclude so that everyone can head over to the Veterans Memorial Plaza immediately east of where Second Street dead ends, in front of the Royal Oak Public Library entrance. Starting time for the ceremony is approximately 10:15 a.m.Parade and ceremony organizers said both events are meant to provide an opportunity to show respect and reverence for those who gave their lives for our freedoms.“Wear your red, white and blue and show your support of our veterans, and stand when the American flag is passing,” said Memorial Day Parade Committee President Carol Hennessey. “Either salute or place your hand on your heart.”Anywhere from 2,000 to 3,000 people are expected to line the streets for the event, depending on the weather, and in the past, some people have arrived as early as 7 a.m. to grab a perfect spot.Hennessey said the parade committee could always use additional volunteers at 7 a.m. the morning of the parade. The ceremony will take place at the gazebo outside the Blair Memorial Library, 416 N.
